Using online VAT services

Even your video on how to submit a VAT return is out of date as it makes no mention of the additional security needed of a text code which assumes you can actually receive it. Pity HMRC dont realise some parts of UK still dont have reliable mobile reception so this layer of security is impossible to comply with. Still its a good cash generator screwing businesses that cannot comply with assessments and penalties.

Hi,

This is the response for both posts made in 21/12/18.

If you are having trouble with receiving your 2 step verification code via landline or mobile phone, you may wish to consider downloading the HMRC App from the app store onto your mobile or tablet device. Once downloaded the app will continuously give you a new code every 30 seconds, even if you have no signal.

From April 2012 all business are required to submit their VAT Returns online. Exceptions to this are if the business is subject to an insolvency procedure etc.

Please see the following link which explains this:

VAT Returns

If you wish to discuss this further then please contact the Helpline on 0300 200 3700.

With regards to the videos about how to submit your VAT Returns online not showing the full journey, we will pass this onto the relevant team.

I hope this helps.

I have lost my log in details and have been unable to access the facility to do my VAT return.
Can you supply me with a contact to resolve this problem.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your question.

If you have lost both your user ID and password, then you can recover these on www.gov.uk.

Navigate to the login page, and under where it asks you to enter your user ID and password select “Forgotten user ID” and follow the process to recover this.

Once you have recovered your user ID go back to the login page and select “Forgotten password” and follow that process to reset your password online.

Alternatively you can call the VAT Helpline on 0300 200 3700 and an adviser can help you recover these.
