Don’t get caught out. Employers need to get ready for the increase in the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) on 1 April 2019.

The new rates of NMW/NLW need to be applied on the first pay reference period on are after 1 April 2019.

The new rates are per hour:

  • 25 and over - £8.21

  • 21-24 - £7.70

  • 18-20 - £4.35

  • Under 18 Apprentice - £3.90

  • Apprentices

    Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice rate if they’re either:

  • aged under 19

  • aged 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.

  • Example: An apprentice aged 22 in the first year of their apprenticeship is entitled to a minimum hourly rate of £3.90.

    Apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they both:

  • are aged 19 or over

  • have completed the first year of their apprenticeship.

  • Accommodation

    The daily accommodation offset rate will increase to £7.55 per day or £52.85 weekly.
