Important - Have you got your EORI number?

20/12/2018 15:27:16
This guide is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg).

HMRC have published the latest letter to UK traders that only trade with the EU to help you prepare for the unlikely event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

The letter advises these businesses on the three actions that must be taken now to ensure you can continue to trade the day after the UK leaves.

This includes registering for a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number.

Businesses that only trade with the EU will need an EORI number:

  • to continue to import or export goods with the EU if the UK leaves the EU without a deal; and

  • before they can apply for authorisations that will make customs processes easier.

  • If you are a UK business that trades with the EU and do not already have an EORI number then you should register for an EORI number on GOV.UK . It only takes 10 minutes to apply.

You can read the full letter to UK traders that deal with the EU only on GOV.UK.

Does this relate to business that sell to end users? ie not shipping containers, but sending a single item via Royal Mail? We already complete the CN22 - is that sufficient? I am already very confused about this EORI as it seems to relate to B2B exports, not B2C (ie me selling online to a person who's going to use it themselves).

Should we be putting our EORI no on all our invoices?

This is in response to the question posted by Anonymous on 18/02/2019 8:23:36

Thanks for your question and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

TSP only applies to goods imported into the UK from the EU after we leave the EU – not exports from the UK.

    Hi mycomputer,

This is a reply to your question on 26/02/2019 at 12:05:32.

There is no need to include your EORI number on invoices (though it’s no problem if you have been doing that). However, you will need to provide your EORI number on customs declarations.

    Thank you.
