As part of this investment, £5 million in funding is now available to help businesses to meet the costs of employee training and IT improvements ahead of the UK leaving the EU.
The deadline for applications has been extended to 31 May 2019 to enable more businesses to benefit from the investment available and provide more time for applications.
Businesses can apply for one or both grants:
• There is £2 million available to fund training for intermediaries and traders completing customs declarations (or intending to complete customs declarations in the future).
• There is £3 million available in IT improvement funding, available to small and medium sized employers in the customs intermediaries sector.
PwC is administering the grants on behalf of HMRC as an accredited grant administrator. Businesses who wish to apply for funding should not contact HMRC and can apply online. More information, and a link to the online application page are available on GOV.UK.
Please ensure you check the guidance carefully and submit all of the relevant information to ensure your application can be processed as quickly as possible.
Looking for training courses?
HMRC is also working with training provider, Knowledge Pool, to invest the remaining £3m of funding to increase training provision in this area.
This includes the development of a new modular training course which is now available. More information on this new course, and the organisations who are delivering the training over coming months, is available on the customs declarations training website.
To help ensure training spaces are available for businesses applying for the grants, Knowledge Pool have also engaged Strong and Herd, EEF and the Institute of Export, to increase the number of courses they’re providing throughout January to March 2019. Businesses interested in finding out more should contact the training providers directly. Other training providers also offer courses on this topic, so businesses are encouraged to look at what is available in order to meet their needs.
