National Insurace Class 2 showing as 0.00 on Self Assessment

08/04/2019 07:47:19
Hi,

I am completing my self assessment online and have earned over the threshold to pay Class 2 but it is saying I own '0.00' in the NI2 section and saying 'NI2 amount not available' in the full calculation section.

I can't select to pay voluntarily instead as it then comes back with an error saying I have earned over the amount to do this.

I paid NI2 via self assessment last year so am all set up to do so.

Can anyone shed any light on what's going on. Is this an error in the HMRC's system?

Many thanks,

Grace

Hi Grace

I assume that you are completing the 2018/19 SA Return online? I am not aware of any online system problems in respect of the Class 2 NIC. Please contact the Online System Helpline on 0300 200 3600.

Hi Grace, yes this a known error in HMRC's system and it might be because of any number of reasons. Each case of this happening needs to be discussed with HMRC which is a total inconvenience.
I would suggest that you contact the National Insurance helpline on 0300 200 3500 and they will help you.
Kind regards, Jane Bailey

There is a well-known issue, which is being reported on the Agent Forum. It is due to the timing of the class 2 periods, which run from Sunday to Saturday. No NI is being shown on any returns and the Helpline is clogged as a result. Returns need to be held up!

Hi,

Thanks for your comments on this and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.

This issue is currently being investigated and if you have filed your 2018/19 return without the Class 2 NIC charge a revised SA302 tax calculation will be issued in due course with the appropriate Class 2 NIC charge included.

Hi DaveQ,

Thanks for your question.

Where necessary, revised SA302 calculations have now been issued for returns filed before 9 April 2019 to include the 2018-19 Class 2 NIC charge.

OK, thanks for the response.

However I did not submit my 20118/19 return yet and the Class 2 NIC is still showing as 0.00 which is incorrect.

So is the advice still to go ahead and submit anyway?

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for clarifying.

The Class 2 NIC data should now be present and you can complete and file your return.

If you had already started to complete your return you will need to discard this and start again. The Class 2 NIC data should then be present and you can complete and file your return as normal.

I hope this helps.

I did as you said....discarded the entire return and then re-entered. Still had exactly the same issue.

Is anyone else still having this issue?

I have submitted the return with a note added to request that the Class 2 amount be added

Hi,

As you have submitted the return you will be issued with a revised calculation in due course which should have the correct Class 2 reflected.

If there are any payments due we would recommend paying the "correct" amounts by the due date.

Thank you.

National Insurace Class 2 showing as 0.00 on Self Assessment

Hi,
I am currently helping my partner file his SA for the 2018/19 tax return. He has also earned over the Class 2 NIC limit and I'm having the exactly same problem. Please advise as he is expecting a tax refund, so can't then 'pay the correct amount'
Surely if this is a reoccurring issue HMRC should try and fix it, instead of it taking longer for us to submit the tax returns and then us worrying thinking we have done it wrong?

Thanks,

Hi,

The Class 2 NIC data should now be present and you can complete and file your return.

To enable you to submit the return please discard the return that you have started to complete and start again.

The Class 2 NIC data should then be present and you can then complete and file the return as normal.

I hope this helps and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

I had already submitted my return before noticing the above error, what do I need to do in order to get an SA302 that matches my summary figure?
