MTD registration takes up to 72 hours for HMRC to process and cannot be started close to a VAT direct debit period. It takes up time and possibly delays VAT submission.

Where a business already uses VAT Online (meaning HMRC already has its details, VAT number, UTR and verified email), why not streamline MTD registration to a tick-box that confirms the switch to MTD. Sign-in to VAT Online, accept the MTD terms and here’s your pre-approved MTD authorisation code, ready to go. Wouldn't that be less troublesome?

Hi.

In anticipation of Making Tax Digital for VAT, HMRC have been working on and upgrading our software systems also, as well as requesting traders to be ready.

As part of the new Making Tax Digital for VAT rules being introduced, part of the process unfortunately is that there is a compulsory ‘sign-up’, so we can align our systems with traders from 01 Apr 2019, making a seamless transfer of information being supplied digitally by traders and recorded and processed by HMRC digitally on our systems.

We are having problems signing a few clients up to MTD. We get an error message that the client cannot be recognised (from it's UTR and VAT registration). We can't get through to the VAT helpline. How can we rectify this?
