Agent Service account - ask a client to authorise you
Can you clarify that if we authorise a client through our Agent Service Account for MTD they then cannot use their own government gateway login to file VAT returns and that we have to either deactivate the authorisation or submit the VAT return for them?

If the agent has signed the client up for MTD then the client will need to make sure they have the enrolment needed in their own Business tax Account (BTA).
The client should login to www.gov.uk using their User ID and password and check if they have MTD services. Some have found when they login it states “Your agent has signed you up to Making Tax Digital” Under this there should be an option stating “Add Making Tax Digital for VAT to my account “.
If this does not appear in the clients account then they should contact the VAT Online helpdesk using the details here:
You will need to send the following identity information:
Your first name and surname
Confirmation of your work email address
The name of your firm/organisation
The name of your professional body/ies
Your professional body registration number/reference
