Language teacher - place of work?

Hello,

In 2016/17 I taught language classes for approximately 3 hours per week. These were done at the students houses, and on average I was travelling via bus for 4 hours per week (a total of 7 hours away from home). I have no office, but use my home to plan lessons, market my classes, complete accounts etc., all of which took approximately 3 hours per week. Can I claim my bus travel as an expense? Would my home be considered my ‘place of work’, or would my place of work be my students’ homes? I ask, as I spend more time travelling and teaching than at home planning lessons and managing my accounts.

Thanks.
Pan

Hi Pan - thanks for your submission.

Your home would be classed as your place of work and you would be able to claim for travel.
