Do I need to submit a self-assessment return if I have received a P800?

I have received a P800 which includes my salary from my period as self-employed. It shows an underpayment which will now be taken from my salary as I am PAYE. If i were to complete a return it would contain the same information as the P800 therefore I don't think this is required. Please advise?

Hi

If you have self-employment income then you will have to complete a tax return.

If there is an issue in relation to your employment status, here is the link to the page on our website. Please see

The self employment income is included in the P800.
When you say 'If there is an issue' What does this mean? there is no isse with my employment status, I was PAYE and Self employed within the tax year.
If I complete a tax return is it not double counting what HMRC have aleady been made aware of?

Hi

You will need to complete a tax return if you have self employment income.

The P800 would not have been appropriate to include self employment income, so it would be the P800 which would be incorrect.

Kind regards
