HMRC pre populated my eomployment income with net not gross pay for the year. Is that wrong? So my final income is net employment plus rental income lesser my personal allowance. It’s then taken off the tax already paid through PAYE. Shouldn’t it have pre populated with the gross employment income after pay? Please advise as don’t want to end up with a massive bill of underpayment!

Hi Samina

You would have to amend the return to show the tax paid through PAYE. You declared pay from employments (gross) then tax deducted to ensure you are not being taxed twice. If you have paid the correct of tax through PAYE in your case - you should only be taxed on your income from property. If you are unsure how to ament your return you can follow this link to request a webchat https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/self-assessment
