What to consider if you take on employees

This is a bit of a strange one and i am wondering if this is the case.
A company is offering a position at a daily rate however when you break this down into hours it comes out slightly less than minimum wage. Is this legal?
They are also offering a price for a position which is two weeks duration and it is fixed price, again it works out under the minimum wage when broken into hours, can the company do this?
Any advice would be welcome
